What are archival, fine art prints? Well, you've come to the right place. Archival prints are printed on premium quality, acid-free, 100% cotton photo paper - considered the longest lasting surface for photographs. They are timeless, elegant and my personal favorite surface to print on. Archival prints offer greater scratch resistance, exceptional detail and color stability. As long as your print is displayed in a moderate climate, with good structural integrity - the rich colors and details will stand the test of time.
We all have a different aesthetic when it comes to how we want our art to look, so I have curated several options for you to pick from. All of our photo papers are archival quality, so you can be confident that you are getting a timeless, classy photograph - regardless which customization option you choose. Quick "tooltip" info tabs are also available on product pages for each medium option while creating your order. Below are more detailed explanations and the name of the exact paper used should you choose to do your own research.
Kodak ENDURA Lustre "E"
Most high end print shops will use this paper as their "default" surface for good reason! This paper features a fine grain pebble texture with a slight semi-gloss sheen, and is known for its exceptional sharpness and vivid colors. Lustre is a hybrid of glossy and matte that provides the benefits of both styles. Kodak Lustre presents slightly richer prints than matte papers, yet not as shiny as glossy paper. It's our most affordable option and still offers a true museum quality experience. The slight Lustre sheen may show glare under certain lighting and framing conditions so if any amount of glare is concerned - consider a matte paper finish instead.
Fuji Deep Matte Velvet
This paper is absolutely gorgeous! It displays your photograph with a soft, but rich elegance. Velvety smooth to the touch, this paper was designed with a protective layer resistant to fingerprints (but still you shouldn't touch the print surface). It's non-reflective surface delivers gorgeous black and whites or vivid color under any lighting situation. Fuji Deep Matte Velvet is ideal for prints in areas with multiple light sources and distracting reflections.
Canson Platine Fibre Rag
310gsm, semi-gloss finish, highest DMAX (depth of black) of all our photo paper options. Without any doubt, this is my favorite, absolute go-to paper for printing black & white (all black and white prints are preselected with this as the default option). White is true white, and the depth and and richness of the photograph is just magical. They look just like they came out of a darkroom. If you are looking for a premium black & white print, with a smooth to the touch finish - this option is for you.
Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308
308gsm, 18.9mil, matte finish. This is one of the world's most popular "all-arounder" papers for high-quality printing - and my personal favorite to print all my photographs on. Prints on this paper are deep and delicate. It displays brilliant colors, deep blacks, balanced contrast and perfect reproduction of detail. This thick, luscious paper is our premium quality matte finish fine art paper. Did we mention it's thick!? It feels like watercolor paper - yet with a smooth finish. This paper has little to no texture. If you want to add an extra elegance to your print - this option is for you. With a matte finish this paper is ideal in areas with multiple light sources and distracting reflections.
Hahnemühle Torchon
285gsm, matte finish, heavily textured fine art paper. This paper is our most textured option. This rough paper has a very tactile feel to it. Its unique surface blends with the photograph and lends to a more three-dimensional effect and sense of depth. Prints display bright colors, excellent reproduction of detail and deep blacks. It's matte finish will also reduce glare around multiple light sources where distracting reflections are a concern. If you are looking for a heavily textured paper that will add a more rugged look to your print - like watercolor paper - I would choose this option!
Hahnemühle Fine Art Baryta
300gsm, satin finish, extremely deep DMAX (depth of black). This premium fine art paper sits firmly between our lustre and matte options (in terms of shine) - but with it's own unique bang! It offers true whites, extremely deep, rich blacks and a very smooth, subtle surface texture. This paper is well suited for either color or black and white prints with deep contrast, intense colors and incredible rendering of detail. With a satin finish, there will be some potential for glare over a matte option - but the unique coating and subtle texture on this paper refracts light that would ordinarily overwhelm a lesser quality satin finish paper. This is an excellent option if you want the wonderful depth and sharp detail characterized by glossy paper, but without the overwhelming, high sheen. It's absolutely beautiful.
