Horizontal Panorama, Black & white of Grand Teton National Park. One of my absolutely favorite photographs, taken of my favorite mountain range in the world. This was taken in single digits, on one of those rare calm, clear and stunning winter mornings on a mellow ski tour through Jackson Hole, WY.
Horizontal Panorama, Black & white of Grand Teton National Park. It was well into single digits, on a cloudy winter morning as we drove through Jackson Hole, WY - hoping to catch one of it's world renowned sunrises. It's a drive I've done many times, most often at zero dark thirty - coffee in hand - on my way for a big ski tour in the Tetons. But this morning, the legs were tired from a big powder day the day before and my buddy and I just wanted to enjoy a chill, peaceful morning, skinning the flats with my camera. At first it didn't look like mother nature was going to give us the opportunity. With full on arctic temps outside, full cloud cover and a dense, low fog laying in the valley - visibility was zero. My buddy and I almost turned back, but decided what the heck - we're already awake - let's see what happens. Sure enough, an hour later the clouds burned off, as the sun rose over the valley. Brilliant pink & blue hues dominated the landscape and as we put our skis on the head back to the car, I noticed one final wisp of cloud clinging to the top of the Grand Teton. The result is this black & white photograph. Of all the images on my website, this one is perhaps the most special because when I first saw the Tetons at age 13, they instantly became my favorite mountains in the world. I've been all over the world, climbed and photographed my peaks, but this landscape still comforts the soul like nowhere else.
